Following my breakdown writing the previous post, I have some better news to share.

Our flock has been rewarded an extension to the 30-day to remove them request. We have until April 20th to move our flock to a new location.

We had mentioned how stressful enough winter can be on a flock, add a new location on top of that and we could expect the worst. We now have time to get our plans in order. We will be staying at Susan’s parents house until we find the best place to move them for the last time.

We are searching for the perfect plot of farmland. Nothing too large, but nothing small either. It’s going to be an adventure, that’s for sure! I’m very happy that Susan’s parents were kind enough to allow us to move in. They have a beautiful property on land that is zoned for livestock. Susan grew up with horses and ponies. The chickens will have a wonderful barn, and we will make them an enclosed run when they are not being supervised.

On top of that whopper of great news, Janet laid her first egg on Thusday, and her second yesterday! Go Janet! She really knows how to sing the eggsong.

Her eggs are long and bi-coloured with freckles! 

Here are some updates on my girls and guys from the past week. Macy is losing her grey spot on the top of her head.

Every day she is venturing closer and closer to me and whatever treat I have at the time.. I have high hopes.

Marge is officially bigger than Dixie. She’s a chunker! This one is a force to be reckoned with. I think she will make it to the top of the pecking order in no time.

On Friday we had a small storm compared to other winters, but enough of one to upset the chickens.

Jagger was disgusted, as he always appears to be when I’m around.

If he could fight off the snow for his girls, I’m sure he would.

Most of them stayed outside until it was too deep to see grass.

I was shocked to see them all outside, even with the snow falling all around them.

Harriett is our last polish chicken. She appears a lot healthier than Carl and Wendy ever were.

Ida is so itty-bitty.. She can easily be scooped up with one hand, but she is growing. I am surprised with how well she is weathering the cold. Silkies ARE winter-hardy.

Lorraine.. You better lay an egg soon. You’re driving me crazy!

Someone mentioned that my Steve resembles the abdominal snowman.. I can see the similarities.. *snicker*
